Specialized Texas Watercraft & Boat Insurance Coverages

Texas watercraft and boat insurance coverages go beyond the scope of a standard homeowners policy to include protections and services such as Roadside Assistance, which covers towing of your boat or personal watercraft for free while on the ground, as long as your trailer is covered; On-Water Towing,  for when you get stranded on the water; as well as Uninsured Boaters coverage. Furthermore, Personal Effects and Fishing Equipment coverages are also available via our various Texas boat insurance plans.

Limits of Your Homeowners Policy

Although most homeowners insurance cover some smaller boats and PWCs, your boat or personal watercraft could prove too big or too expensive to be covered through a homeowners policy. This means you may need specific boat or watercraft insurance to protect it. Select Love insurance can offer insurance policies for yachts and boats up to 50 feet long and up to $250,000 in value, as well as personal watercraft up to 15 feet long with a maximum value cap of $27,000. Although some boats may be fully covered and eligible for watercraft insurance coverage under a Texas homeowners policy, you may still want to consider opting for specialized coverages that are only available via various boat insurance coverages listed below.

CONSIDER THESE FACTORS TO BEST DECIDE WHAT TEXAS BOAT INSURANCE TO BUY

Your Texas Boat Insurance Policy's Accepted Geographic Coverage Area

Certain insurance companies may limit where you can go with your watercraft under their coverage. Others may charge you extra if you travel to such areas. However, at Select Love Insurance we can offer you boat insurance policies that cover all inland lakes, rivers and navigable waterways of the continental United States and Canada, including ocean waters within 50 miles from the coast of the U.S. or Canada.

Your Boat's Replacement Cost

Boats and personal watercrafts depreciate in a similar fashion to cars. A homeowners policy typically only pays out actual cash value for your damaged or lost boat or personal watercraft, which could make replacements difficult if not impossible. However using Select Love Insurance’s Texas boat insurance policies that offer Total Loss Replacement, we can replace your boat or personal watercraft with a brand new model if the loss is within the first five model years. We can further provide you with Agreed Value coverages, regardless of your boat’s age.

Texas Watercraft & Boat Insurance Policies

While enjoying yourself on water, if you or your boat is hit by someone who doesn't have watercraft insurance, or doesn't have enough boat insurance, uninsured/underinsured boater coverage saves the day.

  • Uninsured Boater Bodily Injury pays for damages when a covered person is injured during a boating accident and the person at fault for the accident does not have boat liability insurance.

  • Underinsured Boater Bodily Injury covers damages for when a covered person is injured and the person at fault for the boating accident does not have enough boat or watercraft liability insurance.

  • Uninsured/Underinsured Boater Property Damage may pay for damages when a covered boat or vessel is damaged and the person at fault for the accident does not have  any boating liability insurance or does not have enough liability insurance.

These coverages generally work in the following ways:

If you sustain injuries during a boating accident, Medical Payments (MedPay) coverage pays the cost of necessary medical care you receive as a result. Medpay can be used regardless of who is at fault for the accident.

  • Covered persons include the named policyholders and anyone in/on the covered boat or vessel at the time of the accident. MedPay further pays for injuries caused while water skiing or tubing.

  • MedPay coverage for boaters is often limited to medical treatment received within the first three years after a boating accident and is limited to a specific dollar amount per your policy. This coverage may apply sometimes only after other medical insurance is exhausted first.

With Comprehensive and Collision coverages, all covered damages and losses with regards to your boat paid for, regardless of who is at fault. You only have to pay your deductible.

Collision coverage kicks in if you collide with another boat or object while waterborne, and Comprehensive coverage helps you if your boat is damaged by an event other than a collision, such as fire, theft or vandalism.

When you buy Comprehensive and Collision coverage as part of your Texas boat insurance policy, you have a choice in how to settle your claim if your boat is ever damaged beyond repair (a total loss) or is sunk at sea:

  • Actual Cash Value — With Actual Cash Value coverage, you can get paid either the market value of your boat/PWC at the time of the loss, or the Rating Base-whichever is lower. The Rating Base is defined as the dollar value you originally provided us for your boat or PWC to reflect its current market value.

  • Agreed Value — With Agreed Value coverage for boats, you receive the agreed value of your boat-an amount you previously chose, and to which your insurance provider agreed-regardless of its current market value at the time of the loss. To determine your boat's value, you can refer to your sales receipt (for newer boats), an ABOS, BUC or N.A.D.A. appraisal guide, or an accredited marine survey.

  • Total Loss Replacement/Purchase Price — With Total Loss Replacement/Purchase Price coverage for boats and watercrafts, you can get a new replacement for your boat to the greatest extent possible, the same make, class, size and type, with comparable equipment. If you decide not to replace your boat, or if your boat is older than 5 years at the time of the loss, you can receive the original purchase price. This coverage requires a sales record or receipt to determine the original purchase price and can be initially purchased only for new boats no more than one model year old. It is not available for PWCs.

Comprehensive

Replacement Cost Personal Effects coverage for Texas boat insurance policies pays for loss of or damages to your personal items while on board an insured boat, or while being carried on or off an insured boat.

  • No more than $15,000 would be paid per person for Bodily Injury

  • No more than $30,000 would be paid per accident for Bodily Injury

  • No more than $10,000 would be paid per accident for Property Damage
